Situated in the heart of Wales' vibrant Capital City, The Royal is Cardiff's oldest hotel, dating back to 1866 when it first opened its doors to welcome visitors to the great city. The hotel is situated on the second floor above the hustle and bustle of St Mary Street and Westgate Street with a discreet entrance leading to a warm Welsh welcome.

The Royal Hotels' 60 stylish and contemporary bedrooms are all uniquely different, offering space, neutral tones and bold furnishings and great views of the city. All rooms boast pocket sprung beds, crisp, clean linen and over-sized goose down pillows for a comfortable and enjoyable nights sleep. All natural limestone bathrooms have massage showers or deep baths, a selection of toiletries and fresh towels.

Food & Drink

The Lounge Bar serves a wide selection of drinks and snack foods throughout the day, however, the hotel does not serve dinner.

The hotel does have an arrangement with Mia Porto Duo, whereby the meal and drinks can be billed back to the hotel. Mia Porto Due is within the Brewery Quarter on St Mary Street.

Dinner, bed and breakfast rates include a two course evening meal served at Mia Porto Due.

We have a number of rooms including the Lounge Bar which are great for Private dining, for large events we recommended our most famous; The Captain Scott Room. Our private meeting rooms host wedding celebrations, corporate hospitality, parties, meetings and events from 2 up to 130 guests.

We have several rooms suitable for all occasions large or small to accommodate all your meeting or event needs. Whether business or pleasure our dedicated meeting and events team will look after your every requirement.

The Captain Scott Room - This Historic room is where Captain Scott attended a banquet two days prior to his departure to the Antarctic. Restoration was completed in spring 2006.

Our Captain Scott Room can accommodate a full sit down Wedding Breakfast for up to 130 guests with an exclusive bar, dance floor and private cloakroom facilities.

If you are planning a smaller, more intimate gathering for up to 30 guests, you can choose from The Lounge Bar or one of our other smaller suites. We would be delighted to show you around the Hotel and have an opportunity to become a part of your special day.

We now offer free internet in all rooms additional to free Wi-Fi in the Fitz’s Bar, reception lobby areas and the Scott room.
