This pub is in an old attractive Victorian house set at a cross roads in the expansive village of Formby. It sits on the site of a local market where in 1799, a local man sold his wife for 15/- and a bowl of punch!
The pub is divided into four rooms with comfy sofas and chairs and attractive fireplaces and pictures of old Formby can be found on the walls. An Old English Inn in the heart of Formby village. We served traditional English fare along with our daily changing chef's specials. Try one of our 10 cask ales, there are some Greene King favouites along with local guest ales from a variety of breweries. There's an extensive gin collection on our bar, the staff will be happy to recommend which is perfect for you! Thoughout the summer months come and relax in our 2 beer gardens whether you want to dine al fresco or enjoy and refreshing drink in the sunshine. Breakfast is served Saturday and Sunday 10am till 12pm, choose from a tradtional English breakfast or there's lite bites if your just a little peckish. We have regular events throughout the year in aid of our local charites; our main event being CrossFest, an annual outdoor beer and music festival held during August Bank Holiday Weekend. There are live bands on an outdoor stage, real ale tent, gin bar, festival stalls, BBQ and much much more.
The pub was refurbished at the end of Summer 2013 with an extended dining area and new garden to the rear to complement the open area at the front of the pub. Small private functions can be held in an area of the restaurant which can be sectioned off.
We are only a short walk from The National Trust Coastline in Formby, with a glorious beach and dramatic sand dunes surrounded by sweeping coastal pinewoods. There's plenty of wildlife to see and wonderful walks to discover and if youve taken the dog then bring them back to the pub where they along with you can ebjoy a drink in a beautiful beer garden. You can find us just off the Formby By-Pass(A5654) between Liverpool and Southport, just follow the signs.
