Brooklands, The Birthplace of British Motor Sport and Aviation, opened to the public in June 1907. It quickly became a focal point for motor racing, aircraft production and flying and a destination of choice for 1920s and ‘30s high society. Today those halcyon days of racing and flying are evoked at the 32-acre Brooklands Museum, through our year-round programme of events and activities and our welcome to visitors from all over the world to see and experience our vast collection of vintage racing cars, motorcycles, bicycles and aircraft.
The Museum is open every day (except for a few days over Christmas) and every June we celebrate this rich past with The Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival which sees world-class drivers and vehicles compete in tests and sprints similar to those tackled by our ancestors. Each May we stage The 1940s Relived which transforms the site into a paradise of Swing dancing, hair and make-up parlours, live music, Home Front and Home Guard re-enactor groups and the Best Dressed Competition. On most weekends there will be a gathering of visiting classic motor vehicles on the site, often involving dramatic ascents of the famous Brooklands Test Hill
Additionally, you can go on board the only Concorde accessible in the South-East of England, whether for one of the virtual flights which run every day or even for your own wedding. In the school term holidays we run car rides up the Test Hill and along the steepest part of the race track known as the Members’ Banking. At the heart of the site is the Edwardian Club House with its period rooms, café and many displays of memorabilia and exhibits. So, if you want to step back in time to experience the exciting and glamorous life of the ‘20s and ‘30s – or even the high-flying ‘90s - come and visit Brooklands Museum, soon.
