Golden Globe winner amongst movies to be screened at Keswick Film Festival

Tickets are on sale for Keswick Film Festival, where movie lovers are to be treated to the biggest ever line up of global films at the event’s 25^th anniversary, including 2025’s Golden Globe Best Drama Film, The Brutalist.

Taking place at various venues around the Lakeland town of Keswick, Keswick Film Festival is a platform for showcasing independent films and shorts from around the world.

The anniversary year will see movies from right across the globe including Iran, Palestine, France, Finland and China, plus of course, some British films, including ones created by local Cumbrian talent.

Amongst the genres are gritty dramas, family movies, animations and short films.

A celebration of independent films, Keswick Film Festival brings small budget movies to the big screen, showcasing films that are often heartwarming, thought-provoking and important pieces of work, created by talented individuals.

Keswick Film Festival works with independent local businesses to screen the movies in often quirky and historical settings. Films for 2025 will be screened across three locations within the Keswick area including Theatre by the Lake, Keswick Alhambra and Rheged.

Following the success of Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom, Festival organisers have tracked down Pawo Choyning Dorji’s new film, The Monk and the Gun, a droll political satire set in the year 2006 as the Kingdom of Bhutan transitions towards becoming the world’s youngest democracy.

Golden Globe Best Picture winner The Brutalist is set to be a popular choice at this year’s festival, meanwhile The Marching Band, a French film with a musical score front and centre will appeal to fans of 90’s classic Brassed Off.

All Your Faces is another French film, dramatizing Restorative Justice – the programme that brings criminals and the victims of crime face to face.

Films tackling lighter subjects include Flow, the utterly compelling and slightly scary story of a disparate group of animals’ struggle to survive a flood. It is a must see for families - and cat lovers!

Organisers of the festival have also secured 2022’s ‘greatest film ever made’ Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles – a film that many people had never heard of.
